Like a painter I am working with shape, balance, rhythm, line, colour, scale, light - often inspired by the natural world and usually exploring the paradoxical nature of things. Glass is my paint. But it has an added quality - a liquid glow that changes with the passage of the sun.
I make glass art pieces for specific environments. In this sense many of my pieces are collaborations as the work is not complete until it has been installed and become part of the wider experience. This makes it particularly well suited to architectural settings - both ancient and contemporary - as well as outdoor environments where there is plenty of light. I work with designers, artisans, builders and engineers to create the optimum installation for the piece.

“…what a stunning and wonderfully inspirational piece of artwork you have accomplished. It is truly a moving vision of beauty, joy, brokenness, a thin space, a sacred space ….heaven on earth.”

RECENT WORKS

IPSWICH HOSPITAL
Commissioned by consultant in charge of organ donation and transplant. Funded by Friends of that department who, between them, had experienced both the loss and the gift of organ donation. I began to realise that the heart symbol signified a great deal to the NHS community, especially having just come through the worst of the Covid period. This heart in three sections stands for the broken hearted response to a loved one dying and it also exudes warm hearted joy: celebrating the community spirit and love. Intended as a memorial as well as a celebration, the piece is installed in the family lounge in the critical care unit.

WINDOW FOR A RUINED CHAPEL - “A Wing And A Prayer” RSPB Minsmere
A colourful burst springing forth from the broken walls and nettly interior of this many times abandoned site. I would call it a celebration of life as well as a reminder of life’s impermanence. A project 5 years in the making, working in partnership with nature and heritage organisations, structural engineers, conservation builders, a specialist glazier, architects, a specialist glass manufacturer and made possible with funding from local county council, independent charities and trusts, Arts Council England and dozens of private individuals.

INTERIOR WINDOW
For a contemporary design home near the Suffolk coast.
Bringing inside the colours, shapes, and watery-ness of the outlying coastal scenery which can be heard but not actually seen from the building. Also purposefully obscuring the window into another interior space without losing too much light.

ROUND WINDOW
The design of the window came directly from the apple tree in the garden of this newly rebuilt house in Devon. We were keen to employ the sun to throw the colours of the glass into the hallway.

HANGING KALEIDESCOPE
For newly renovated Arts and Crafts house on Suffolk coast.
“It’s lovely to touch, to see the colours, to see the bubbles in the glass.
